* Ammonia: Plasma sample must be separated from erythrocytes within 30 minutes of collection.  Due to the instability of ammonia, samples must be received by the laboratory on ice within 2 hours of collection.  For outside submissions, control samples from a clinically healthy animal should be run in conjunction with the patient samples for complete interpretation and to ensure preanalytical factors are not affecting results.

** Troponin I: Plasma sample must be separated from erythrocytes within 2 hours of collection and the sample must be received by the laboratory within 3 hours of collection.  For outside submissions, control samples from a clinically healthy animal should be run in conjunction with the patient samples for complete interpretation and to ensure preanalytical factors are not affecting results.  For EDTA plasma samples that cannot be received within 3 hours of collection, the sample needs to be frozen at -20 degrees celsius and remain frozen until received in the lab.
